Switzerland's Matterhorn

    A beautiful country that dates back as an Old Swiss Confederacy during to the medieval period. It received it formal recognition via the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 and has been neutral since 1815.  It did not join the United Nations until 2002.  It was the birthplace of the Red Cross and is known for it involvement with international organizations and it famous banking operations.

    Switzerland is a land locked country is western-central Europe. Geographically it is between the Alps, the Swiss Plateau and the Jura (a sub-alpine mountain range between France and Switzerland).

    Bern is the capital.  A city that is famous for it bears, the former residence of Albert Einstein and a lovely park near the capitol building.

Train travel is the major means of transportation throughout Switzerland.

      Taking the Alpine railroad to Zermatt and then the cog-railroad to the sky lodge near the Matterhorn (elevation, 4,478m, 14,692ft).
